Oscar Riestra Orozco is a Spanish luthier based in Barcelona. His construction style adheres strictly to the standards of 19th and 20th-century guitars, predating the industrialization of the craft. This entirely artisanal approach, using traditional materials, stems from his desire to recapture the quality of historically renowned guitars of the highest caliber. Specifically, he is referring to masters such as Antonio de Torres, Manuel Ramírez, Santos Hernández, and Domingo Esteso, among others. A lengthy process of shaping and molding the wood gives these instruments a distinct quality, as no detail is overlooked. Among these details is the use of shellac as the sole component of the varnish, without any pore filler. No inorganic materials are used in the instrument's construction; the pieces are joined entirely with hot glue. The result is a unique instrument, one that time has tried to erase, crafted with patience and meticulous attention to detail. It's the traditional Spanish guitar, regardless of whether it's used for flamenco or classical music. It's worth noting that Oscar, before opening his workshop at Calle Padilla 196, completed a Higher Degree in Flamenco Guitar Performance at the conservatory. Therefore, he's a well-trained musician, which allows him to seek out the expressive nuances that musicians strive for.
